10 Best Tips and Tricks to Use Threads Like a Pro

Threads – Facebook’s Twitter rival is off to a flying start. Threads has already clocked 5 million users without four hours of launch. Although the market is packed with several Twitter clones, Threads stands out among them due to wider availability and excellent integration with Meta products like Instagram. If you have boarded the Threads train, learn the best tips and tricks to get the best out of it.

1. Mute Unnecessary Accounts

The Threads home menu shows trending updates from random accounts. If you aren’t fond of a specific account, use the steps below to mute them.

Step 1: Open the Home menu in Threads.

Step 2: Tap the three horizontal dots menu beside a thread and select Mute.

Repeat the same for all the unnecessary accounts for trimming your timeline to gain a better experience.  

2. Keep Your Thread Replies to Limited Profiles

When you compose a new thread, anyone can reply to it. If spammers or bogus profiles are running your Threads experience with unnecessary replies, limit the replies to profiles you follow or mentioned accounts.

Step 1: Launch Threads app and tap the Compose button in the bottom-center of the screen.

Step 2: Enter your thread and tap ‘Anyone can reply’ at the bottom. Select the relevant option.

You can change the privacy setting after posting a thread too. Here’s how.

Step 1: Find your posted thread and tap the three horizontal dots menu beside it.

Step 2: Expand ‘Who can reply’ and limit the replies to profiles you follow or mentioned accounts.

3. Follow Accounts From Instagram

When you create an account on Threads, the app asks you to connect your Instagram ID and pull the relevant information from it. You can easily find and follow the same accounts as you follow on Instagram.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the two bars at the top-right corner to open Settings.

Step 2: Select ‘Follow and invite friends.’ Tap ‘Follow accounts from Instagram.’

Step 3: You can follow your Instagram accounts on Threads.

Even if these accounts aren’t on Thread yet, their profile will show as pending until they join.

4. Change Your Profile Picture on Threads

When you sign up with an Instagram account on Threads, it uses your existing profile picture. You can set another display picture on Threads too.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner..

Step 2: Select ‘Edit profile’ and tap on your profile picture. Select ‘New profile picture.’

Pick another picture from the phone gallery and use one of the built-in filters to edit it.

5. Customize Your Notification Experience

If your inbox is flooded with mentions, likes, reposts, and other alerts, it’s time to tweak notification settings on Threads.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the two bars at the top-right corner to open Settings.

Step 2: Open Notifications and select Threads and replies.

Step 3: You can completely turn off notification categories or limit them to people you follow.

Step 4: Return to the previous menu and select ‘Following and followers.’ Disable alerts for new followers, follow requests, account suggestions, and more.  

6. Share Your Threads Profile

You can go to your profile and tap ‘Share profile’ to send the account link. You can also use the Instagram handle to share the Threads profile.

Step 1: Open Instagram app and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the three horizontal lines at the top and open Threads.

Step 2: Check and share your Threads profile with others.

7. Take a Break on Threads

Similar to other social media apps, Threads can be addictive at times. You have the option to schedule a reminder to take a break when you spend a specific time at once on Threads.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the two bars at the top-right corner to open Settings.

Step 2: Select Account and tap ‘Take a break.’

Step 3: Pick a relevant time.

8. Hide Words and Phrases

As a part of the privacy feature, you can hide certain words and phrases on Threads to keep your timeline clean.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the globe icon at the top left corner.

Step 2: Open Hidden Words.

Step 3: Hide offensive words and phrases. You can manually add custom words and phrases too.

9. Add a Post to Instagram Story or Feed

You can easily add a post to your Instagram story or feed. When you stumble upon an interesting thread, tap the share icon and select Add to story or Post to feed.

You can use all the story editing features, and filters and add the same to your Facebook stories.

10. Enable Private Profile on Threads

By switching to a private account, only approved followers can check and interact with your Threads and replies. It’s a handy trick to keep prying eyes away from your account.

Step 1: Open Threads and tap your profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Tap the globe icon at the top left corner.

Step 2: Enable the ‘Private profile’ toggle and confirm your decision.
