6 Best Fixes for No Sound in YouTube App on Apple TV

The YouTube app can be installed on your Apple TV or Apple TV 4K to catch up with your favorite videos on a bigger screen. You can use the Add to Queue feature on YouTube and binge-watch all those videos on your Apple TV.

But what can ruin your mood is no sound in the YouTube app on your Apple TV streaming box. If you are facing audio issues, this post will share some working solutions to help you fix no sound in the YouTube app on your Apple TV. These solutions are also applicable to Apple TV 4K users.

1. Check Remote Volume Control Settings

To control the volume on your Apple TV, you can also use your IR remote along with the Siri Remote. But it is always better to let your Apple TV automatically detect the remote for controlling the volume on apps like YouTube. We suggest doing the same to fix the no sound problem in the YouTube app on your Apple TV or Apple TV 4K.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Apple TV.

Step 2: Scroll down and select Remotes and Devices.

Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom and select Volume Control.

Step 4: Select Auto to allow Apple TV to select your Siri Remote for volume control.

Step 5: Close Settings and open the YouTube app to check if the problem is solved.

This step also helps your Apple TV to check for an AirPlay device to let it control the volume on YouTube. If you get no sound when playing YouTube over AirPlay on your Apple TV, you need to select your AirPlay speakers as your Output Source.

When you encounter the same while streaming YouTube videos via AirPlay from your iPhone, refer to our guide when AirPlay not working on your iPhone.

2. Check Audio Output Settings

If there is still no sound in the YouTube app on your Apple TV, check the audio output settings for content playback via Apple TV. If you have a home theatre system along with a bunch of smart speakers or soundbars, check which device is assigned for audio output.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Apple TV.

Step 2: Scroll down and select Video and Audio.

Step 3: Scroll down and select Audio Output.

Step 4: Under Default Audio Output, select TV Speakers or choose another output source listed there.

Ensure that the Temporary Audio Output device has been turned off.

Step 5: After you select the correct Output Device, close Settings, and open YouTube to check if the problem is solved.

3. Check Bluetooth Devices

The next solution that we recommend is checking whether any Bluetooth device is connected to your Apple TV or Apple TV 4K. If that is the case, you won’t get the desired audio output while using YouTube.

Step 1: Open Settings on your Apple TV.

Step 2: Scroll down and select Remotes and Devices.

Step 3: Under My Devices section, check if any Bluetooth device is connected to your Apple TV.

If yes, select it and then select Forget Device.

Step 4: After that, close Settings and open the YouTube app to check if the problem is solved.

4. Force Quit and Relaunch YouTube App

If you are still facing the same issue of no sound in the YouTube app on your Apple TV, we suggest to force quit and relaunch the app. We suggest doing the same on your iPhone and iPad in case you want to use AirPlay to stream YouTube videos on your Apple TV.

On Apple TV

Step 1: On your Apple TV remote, double-press the TV button to reveal the App Switcher menu.

Step 2: Use the Left Navigation button to look for the YouTube app.

Step 3: Select and swipe up the YouTube app window to close the app.

Step 4: Relaunch the YouTube app to check if the problem is solved.

On iPhone or iPad

The steps remain the same for both platforms.

Step 1: On the home screen, swipe up and hold to reveal the background app windows.

Step 2: Swipe right to look for the YouTube app. Then swipe up to remove the app.

Step 3: Relaunch the YouTube app and try connecting it via AirPlay to check if the problem is solved.

5. Update the YouTube App

Lastly, we suggest updating the YouTube app on your Apple TV. While most apps automatically update, it’s a good idea to check if the updates for the YouTube app have been held back for some reason.

Step 1: On the home screen of your Apple TV, open the App Store.

Step 2: Select Purchased from the top Menu Bar.

Step 3: Select All Apps from the left menu.

Step 4: Check if the version update is available for the YouTube app.

Step 5: After installing the updates, relaunch the YouTube app and check if the problem is solved.
