Usually, Spotify playlists are an excellent source to get your groove on. Be it working or doing mundane household chores, with the right playlist, all is possible. However, it becomes a killjoy when you’re all hyped up, but the songs go all dark and gloomy. To ensure this does not happen, you can hide or even unhide those songs on Spotify.
While hiding Spotify songs has its advantages, it also has some limitations. For example, as of now, you cannot hide songs from a playlist you’ve created on Spotify. Additionally, the absence of the hide feature on the Spotify desktop app is a bummer too. So, can it not be done then? Keep reading to find out.
How to Hide or See Hidden Songs on the Spotify Mobile App
Hiding a song is an easy task when using the Spotify mobile app. You only need to open the relevant playlist and hide the song. Then, use the menu options to hide the song from the playlist. Once done, the song will become unavailable in the playlist. Post this, you can use the unhide option to make the hidden song available again on Spotify. Here’s how.
Note: This method does not work for user-created Spotify playlists.
1. For Spotify-Curated Playlists
Step 1: Open Spotify and tap on the playlist.
Step 2: Here, tap the three-dot icon in front of the relevant song.
Step 3: Now, tap on ‘Hide this song’. If you’re using the Spotify iOS app, tap on Hide song.
Note: You can also unhide the song if you ever want to. Simply, go to the song you wish to unhide and tap on the – icon in front of it.
Repeat the process for other songs. This way, you will be able to see all the hidden songs on Spotify.
2. For Commercial Public Playlists
Step 1: Open Spotify and tap on the relevant playlist.
Step 2: Go to the song you wish to hide and tap on the three-dot icon.
Step 3: Here, tap on ‘Hide this song’. iOS users can tap on Hide song.
This will instantly hide the song on Spotify. However, if you wish to see it again, you can also unhide the song on Spotify.
Unhide a Song on the Spotify Mobile App
Step 1: Tap on the three-dot icon in front of the grayed-out song.
Step 2: Now, tap on Hidden.
This will make the hidden song visible again on Spotify.
How to Hide or Unhide a Song Using the Spotify Desktop App
Now, because there are no native options available that can help you hide a song on the Spotify desktop app, you can remove the song from your playlist instead. This will ensure the song does not randomly appear when listening to the playlist. Follow the below steps to do it.
Note: This method only works for user-created playlists on Spotify.
Hide a Spotify Song
Step 1: Open the Spotify desktop app.
Step 2: Now, click on the relevant playlist. Use Spotify’s sidebar to search for the playlist if it’s not visible on the home page.
Step 3: Then, go to the song you wish to hide from your playlist. Once the option appears, click on the three-dot icon.
Step 4: Here, click on ‘Remove from this playlist’.
This will instantly hide the song by removing it from your playlist. You can also repeat the process to hide other songs from your playlist.
Unhide a Song on Spotify
If you wish to unhide the song on Spotify using the desktop, the only option is to add it back to the playlist. As mentioned above, this method works only for user-created playlists.
Step 1: From the menu options, click on Search.
Step 2: In the search bar, type the name of the relevant song.
Step 3: Now, click on the song from the search results.
Step 4: Go to the song and click on the three-dot icon in front of it.
Step 5: Here, go to the ‘Add to playlist’ option.
Step 6: Then, from the list, click on the playlist you wish to make the song available in.
This will make the song visible again on your Spotify desktop app.
Enable Show Unplayable Songs on Spotify
When curating personal playlists on Spotify, you must have noticed certain songs disappearing from time to time. This can be because of anything, from the song being currently unavailable to the song being removed from Spotify’s collection. In this case, you can search Spotify and add the song again, if available.
To see these hidden songs, you can allow Spotify to show you unavailable songs. Here’s how to on it on your Spotify Android and iOS app.
Note: Unplayable songs are visible by default on the Spotify desktop app.
On Android
Step 1: Open the Spotify Android app.
Step 2: Here, tap on the cogwheel icon.
Step 3: Once the Settings menu opens, scroll down and turn off the ‘Hide unplayable songs’ toggle.
Spotify will now make all the songs currently added to your playlist visible, regardless of whether they can be played.
On iPhone
Step 1: Open the Spotify iOS app.
Step 2: Then, tap on the cogwheel icon in the top right corner.
Step 3: Select Playback.
Step 4: Here, turn off the ‘Hide Unplayable Songs’ toggle.
This will show you all the unplayable songs on Spotify.
FAQs for Using Spotify
To remove your followers on Spotify, open your Spotify profile page and tap on your followers. Here, tap on the relevant follower.
